Pictures from Tim Capp (and words)

"The Breakfast time Crew shows the camera crew of the day on the set of the 'red sofa' version of Breakfast Time (Frank Bough, Selina Scott era) when the content was less 'hard-edged' news than nowadays.

It came from Studio E at Lime Grove on the 4th floor and could be fairly busy at times with various music numbers, cookery and fashion items and demos etc. Staying awake under those circumstances was certainly easier! Considering the photo must have been taken before transmission at say 5am I think we all look fairly alert.

Assuming it shows all the camera crew (i.e. it was taken by someone else) we obviously needed SEVEN people to operate the Four cameras on the show! Who ever mentioned over-manning?

Anyway, the people shown are: Standing (L to R): myself (Tim Capp) and Doug Beebe Seated (L to R): Craig Jones (I think), Gerry Clapp, Chrissie Pulford, Ian Hider and Giles Wooltorton"

"Doug Beebe modelling his birthday present from the crew one year. Doug was my supervisor for many years and particular enjoyed training raw recruits like myself.

One of our trainees, Martine Brigstocke (as she was then) volunteered to knit Doug the sweater shown with the various shot sizes interwoven on the back. We all thought this would be very useful to Doug for his training exploits!

Despite the generous fit and the intriguing colour, Doug must have liked it so much that we never saw it again!"
