Barry says:
"The course wasn't, if I recall correctly, an STO course. It was, I believe, a newly (re)named "TO" course, being the Tech Ops version of the course following the 'A' course. The engineers followed the 'A' course with the 'B' course (which subsequently led to the 'C' course!!!) and at that time Tech Ops followed the 'A' course some two years later with a 'TO' course (which would lead eventually to the 'STO' course.) The STO course was boarded, but the TO course was mandatory."
...so now you know.
